Index raises EUR 350m to invest in IT, bio and cleantech

Pan-European VC firm Index Ventures closed its fund Index Ventures IV at EUR 350m. A small group of new investors joined existing backers of the new fund. Terms and conditions have been set to market standards. It is understood that there is a catch-up mechanism in place.

Investments


Index will seek opportunities within the cleantech, information technology and life science sectors all over Europe. “Everything we do is about helping entrepreneurs move quickly to become global market leaders,” said Index Ventures’ GP, Bernard Dallé. “Success for European companies has depended on their ability to extend their geographical reach quickly and cost-effectively. We invest in entrepreneurial teams going after global opportunities, whether they are in Tallinn, Toronto, Los Angeles, London or Madrid.” The firm has previously backed landmark deals such as
open source software company MySQL and VOIP business Skype.

People


Bernard Dallé is a general partner at Index Ventures. Former Skype global marketing vice president Saul Klein is the firm’s recently appointed venture partner.
