Fund & Investors

Imperial Innovation Group has launched an early-stage fund to invest in alternative energy projects. The fund has existing commitments of £1m provided by Imperial (through a grant received from the Shell Foundation) and a further £1m from The Carbon Trust.

Investments

The New Low Carbon Seed Fund will target early-stage businesses aiming to develop technologies based on wind, solar, tidal power, as well as biofuels and new materials. Imperial will use its sector know-how to source targets that will fulfil the vehicle’s investment criteria, ranging between £50 -250k per deal, made at the seed or first stage financing rounds. According to the GPs at The Carbon Trust, the cleantech sector offers significant business and investment opportunities. ‘The fund will invest at seed stage into exciting clean energy technology companies with commercial potential and will be a natural investor for companies emerging from our Incubator Programme,’ says Jonathan Bryers, a partner at Carbon Trust Investments. ‘Taking these ideas from prototype to mass market is essential if we are to create a low carbon economy in the UK,’ adds Bryers.
