The Rushlight Awards recognise and celebrate the significant achievements of UK and Irish technology, innovation and commerce in helping to address the key issues of climate change, waste  and pollution management.

In 1997, the overall award winner (sponsored by NESTA) was G24 Innovations. G24i’s has developed a dye sensitised thin film which enables it to manufacture thin, flexible and versatile nano-enabled photovoltaic (solar) material that converts light energy into electrical energy, even under low-light, indoor conditions. The G24i product can create electric energy even in the absence of direct sunlight.

The Rushlight Awards include a host of categories. The award winners in each category in 1997 are listed below: Solar Power Award: Solarcentury;  specially commended: Dulas; commended: G24 Innovations, Norfolk Solar, Thermomax.  

Ground Source Power: Geothermal International Ltd.

Wind Power: quietrevolution; commended: Naturalwatt.

Marine Energy Award Joint Winners: Ocean Energy Ltd AND The Bobber Company Ltd.

Hydropower: Tellisford Mill.

Biomass Award: Environmental Power International Ltd.
 
Renewable Energy Award, sponsored by Black & Veatch:  G24 Innovations; commended: Solarcentury.

Low Emission Powered Travel Award: Axon Automotive Ltd; commended: Lysanda, Connaught Engineering.

Hydrogen & Fuel Cells Award: Ceres Power and Centrica; commended: Intelligent Energy .
