Former US Vice President Al Gore’s fund management company, Generation Investment Management, has entered into an alliance with silicon valley-based technology venture capital fund, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers (KPCB). The “global collaboration” between the companies aims to “find, fund and accelerate green business, technology and policy solutions with the greatest potential to help solve the current climate crisis”.  Al Gore has become a KPCB Partner and John Doerr, a KPCB Partner, is to join the Advisory Board of Generation. KPCB, which has a 35 year track record in start-up venture capital, will continue to invest at the start-up stage, while Generation will continue to invest in global public equities; the collaboration between the respective teams will focus on identifying opportunities for investments required to address what David Blood (Generation co-founder and Managing Partner and former CEO of Goldman Sachs Asset Management) describes as the “financing gap” between the “capital needed and the capital currently deployed to create enduring solutions to the climate crisis”. Blood commented that “Investing in scalable solutions now is critical for the future of the planet”. Mr Gore will donate his salary as a KPCB Partner to the Alliance for Climate Protection.
