From the countless recent debates surrounding climate change and energy security, one technology has emerged with almost universal endorsement. Al Gore cannot imagine successfully negotiating the grueling transition to clean energy without it. The Stern Review saw it as “essential”, Gordon Brown has weighed in with support from the UK budget, and Alex Salmond, First Minister of Scotland, is on record as saying: “Once in every generation, an industrial opportunity comes about whose scale and potential are so mind blowing that it must be grabbed and realized”.

THE ROAD TRANSPORT CO2 CHALLENGE, September 2007 PDF Print E-mail



The issue of carbon from road transport has come very much to the fore in political circles in the UK over recent months. The Government has commissioned Professor King to work on a review of vehicle and fuel technologies. The King Review, which is still underway, has received close to 100 submissions in response to the call for evidence.

The Brighton to London Run on 4 June 2007, World Environment Day, attracted various fuel cell and hybrid cars. The event highlighted manufacturers’ efforts to develop cleaner, greener automotive technology. Cars like General Motors’ Hydro Gen 3 illustrate industry’s efforts to provide a clean petroleum-free vehicle.
